Norman David Gonsalves, 76, of East Providence, (Orchard View Manor) passed away April 11, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of mother Balbina Mendes and father John Gonsalves of Providence, RI. He worked for the Providence International Longshoremen Association and served years in the United States Army and Air Force. He was involved in the Boys and Girls Club of Providence, RI.
Norman leaves behind to cherish his memory his four beloved children, Norman David Jr. of Providence, RI, Kevin Lee of Providence, RI, James of Cranston, RI, and David of East Providence, RI. He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren. He leaves behind eight great-grandchildren. He was the uncle to several nieces and nephews. He is survived by sisters Lorraine Meade, (Alvin) of California, Patricia Schley, (George) of Providence, RI, Maria Briggs of Cranston, RI, Elaine Bessette, (Allen) of North Kingston, RI. Norman was preceded in death by his brothers Gene, Joey, Richard, Donald and Jimmy. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He enjoyed karate and loved teaching the art to those in the Providence community. He loved watching the TV show Jeopardy and spending quality time with family and friends.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the funeral and burial will be held privately. The celebration of life will be held at a later date.
